Ryan Kenney – Birds Eye Foods Monroe County Division 1 Player of the Week

Week 4:  April 21st   – April 26th

8 for 15 with 2 home runs and 6 RBI's. Winning pitcher in 7-1 win over Rush Henrietta, with 9 strikeouts

 

 

 

 

Ryan Kenney was named Division I Player of the Year

Fairport's Senior CF/P Ryan Kenney was named Monroe County Division I Player of the Year.  Kenney led the Red Raiders in hitting in the Monroe County League and led the team in RBIs, Doubles, Triples, and Home Runs.  Kenney also led the team in Innings Pitched, ERA, Batting Avg. Against and On-base Pct. Against.  Kenney was also named 1st-Team All-County for the second time.  Joining him on the 1st-Team is senior INF Corey Goeggelman.  He led the team in hits and On-base Pct.  Also making the Monroe County Division I 2nd-Team for the Red Raiders are Sr. P Andy Petersen, Sr. C Tim Lauber, and So. Coach Ned Amyot coasted to his first varsity win in his first game as Head Coach of the Red Raiders.  Fairport scored 7 runs in the 6th inning to blow the game open.  Scott Deady led the attack with 2 hits and 4 RBIs.  Corey Goeggelman added 3 hits and scored 3 runs.  Sophomores Geoff Soja and David Dupra each had a base hit in their first varsity AB.  Dupra drove in two runs with his hit.  Ryan Kenney started on the mound and retired all nine batters that he faced including 6 strikeouts to pick up the first win of the season.  Fairport (1-0, 0-0)

 

Brockport 5  Fairport 3

The Red Raiders squandered a 3-0 lead with 3 errors that led to 5 unearned runs.  Ryan Kenney pitched 4+ hitless innings before the defense faultered.  Tom Socci delivered 2 run scoring base hits and Corey Goeggelman hammered a leadoff home run in the 3rd.

The Red Raiders fell behind 7-0 in the first two innings and never recovered.  Fairport fought back to cut the deficit to 7-4 but could only muster 3 hits in the game.

The Red Raiders jumped on top with three runs in the first on doubles by Ryan Kenney and Geoff Soja.  Kenney had three RBIs and Tom Socci scored three runs.  David Dupra made his first varsity start and picked up the win with five innings of work.  He gave up two runs, scattered six hits, struck out four and walked two.  Fairport (2-2, 0-1)

The Red Raiders wasted a solid pitching effort from Matt Valente with no run support.  Valente pitched five innings giving up just one run on two hits.  Fairport put runners in scoring position five times and couldn't score.  Fairport (2-3, 0-1).

The Red Raiders fell behind 3-0 in the 4th inning then rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the inning and took the lead in the 5th but couldn't hold on.  Geoff Soja doubled down the right field line to put two runners in scoring position and Matt Valente and Matt Breen followed with run scoring singles to tie the game.  Ryan Kenney drilled a two-out double to right center in the 5th and Dave Dupra put the Red Raiders ahead with a base hit to center.  Whitesoro took the lead back with five runs in the 6th.  Fairport (2-4, 0-1)

The Red Raiders used clutch hitting from Tim Ackerman, Tyler Maxwell, and Kieran Murphy to win game 1 of the day.  Ackerman went 3-3 with two RBIs.  Murphy put the Raiders ahead with run scoring single in the 4th and Maxwell added the game winning run with a two-out base hit.  Ben Falkowitz limited Hornell to two hits and Tim Monohan closed the game with a save.  Fairport (3-4, 0-1)

The Fairport bats broke open in the second game of the day.  The Red Raiders scored 10 runs in the second and six in the fourth to build a big lead.  Ryan Kenney keyed the offensive explosion with a towering 3-run blast to left field that hit a maintenance building.  Kenney had 5 RBIs in the game.  Matt Breen led off the third with a blast over the left center field fence and contributed a pair of RBIs.  Tim Monohan cleared the bases loaded with a double to center.  Fairport (4-4, 0-1)

The Red Raiders put on an offensive fireworks show but couldn't overcome their mistakes against the defending state champs.  After giving up three unearned runs in the top of the first Ryan Kenney tied the game with a monster home run to left. Fairport surrendered the lead in the second but Kenney came to plate a second time and lined another home run to left center to cut the deficit to one run.  It was his third home run in three consecutive plate appearances over two games.  Scott Deady added to the offensive explosion with another three-run blast to left center in the fifth but the Red Raiders couldn't get any closer.

The Red Raiders rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game but couldn't hold on.  Fairport gave up three unearned runs.  Ryan Kenney drove in the first run and Tim Lauber walked with the bases loaded to tie the game.  Tom Socci walked three times and scored twice.  Fairport (4-6, 0-2)

 

Fairport 7  R-H 1

Fairport rode the arm and bat of Ryan Kenney to a victory in its home opener.  Kenney threw a one-hitter with the only hit in the game an infield hit that bounced off first base.  He struck out nine, walked one, and retired the last 15 batters he faced.  R-H scored its run in the top of the first but Kenney got it back with a blast over the left field fence for his fourth home run of the year.  He added run scoring singles in the second and fourth innings to help himself.  Tim Ackerman doubled with two outs in the first to drive in the go ahead run.  Tom Socci contributed two hits and scored twice.  Fairport (5-6, 1-2).

 

Fairport 3 Penfield 0

Fairport got locked into a classic dual with rival Penfield.  The Red Raiders broke a scoreless tie with one-out in the bottom of the 6th when Ryan Kenney bombed his 5th home run of the year.  Geoff Soja singled with two outs and Tim Ackerman and Tim Lauber added run-scoring singles to add two insurance runs for Fairport.  Andy Peterson (2-0) pitched a complete game shutout scattering three hits.  Fairport (6-6, 2-2)


Victor 4  Fairport 3 (9 inn.)

The Red Raiders rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take the lead in the 6th.  Corey Goeggelman singled and scored on a long double to the gap in left center by Ryan Kenney to tie the game.  After Fairport loaded the bases pinch hitter David Dupra walked with two outs to force home the go ahead run.  But an error in the bottom of the inning allowed Victor to tie the game and gave them the opportunity to win the game in the bottom of the ninth.  Fairport (6-7, 2-2)

The Fairport bats were colder than the temperature they played in and they never threatened.  Three errors proved costly.  Corey Goeggelman drove in the only run with a single in the third.  Fairport (6-8, 2-3).

The Red Raiders gave up two runs in the first but stormed back with five in the bottom of the inning keyed by a run scoring single by Andy Peterson.  Fairport added two more in the second on run scoring singles by Corey Goeggelman and Geoff Soja and added an insurance run in the sixth on a long double to the gap in left center off the bat of Kieran Murphy to drive in Tyler Maxwell.  Ryan Kenney pitched a complete game giving up just one hit after the first and striking out five.  Fairport (7-8, 3-3).

The Red Raiders rallied twice in see-saw battle to beat Brockport 7-6.  Fairport scored 4 times in the 2nd after trailing 2-0 keyed by a two-out two-run single by Corey Goeggelman.  In the top of the 3rd Brockport put the first two runners on before the next hitter lined a shot that was snared by SS Tom Socci who flipped to Goeggelman at second then relayed to first for a rare inning ending triple play.  The Raider defense turned two more double plays to kill Brockport ralliesin the game.  Brockport regained the lead in the 6th but the Raiders fought back again.  Goeggelman lined a base hit to center and Matt Valente unloaded a long triple down the right field line to tie the game.  Valente went 4-4 in the game and scored three times.  Geoff Soja followed with a clutch two-out single to right to drive in the winning run.  Fairport (8-8, 4-3)

 

Gates-Chili 11 Fairport 7 

Fairport used the long ball to come from behind three times but couldn't hold on.  Geoff Soja tied the game in the 2nd with his first varsity home run of his career with a solo shot down the left field line.  An inning later Ryan Kenney put the Red Raiders in the lead with a two-run blast to left.  Kenney delivered another two-run bomb with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game but the Raiders couldn't hold Gates.  (Fairport 8-9, 4-4).

Mistakes kept the Red Raiders from ever staying close in this game.  Corey Goeggelman started the game off with a bang hitting his second home run of the year over the left field fence.  Andy Sulkowski reached base on an error to lead off the 7th.  He stole third and scored on a double to the gap in left center by Lou Zambelli.  (Fairport 8-10, 4-4)

 

Fairport 17  Rush-Henrietta 11

The Red Raiders brought the bats to R-H banging out 15 hits.  AJ Mitrano tied the game in the 2nd with a two-run single.  Corey Goeggelman followed with a 3-run blast to right to put the Red Raiders ahead.  Ryan Kenney went back-back with his 8th home run of the year over the fence in center.  R-H answered with 6 runs of their own before the Raiders come back with 5 runs in the 5th and 5 more in the 6th.  Geoff Soja drilled a 2-out 2-run double in the 5th and Kenney added a 2-run single in the 6th.  Goeggelman had 3 hits, scored 4 runs and added 5 RBIs.  Kenney went 3/3 with 3 runs and 4 RBIs.  Soja had 3 hits and 3 RBIs.  (Fairport 9-10, 5-4).

 

Penfield 5  Fairport 4

The Red Raiders started off the game with a bang putting up 4 runs in the 1st inning but couldn't hold the lead or score after that.  The first four hitters reached base and scored for Fairport keyed by run-scoring base hits by Corey Goeggelman, Matt Valente and a double by Tim Lauber.  (Fairport 9-11, 5-5)

 

Pittsford Sutherland 14  Fairport 5

The rain held off for the pre-game ceremonies honoring the late Red Raiders coach Pete Granger in a moving tribute for family, alumni and friends of Fairport Baseball.  Unfortunately Fairport's pitching faultered today and couldn't keep Sutherland off the board.  The Red Raiders fell behind but managed to score 5 runs in the 4th inning.  Goeggelman, Kenney, and Valente had run-scoring hits for Fairport.  (Fairport 9-12, 5-5)

Spencerport 5  Fairport 1

The bats were as cold as the weather on Senior Day for the Red Raiders.  All the seniors started for Fairport in their last regular season home game in a Fairport uniform.  Senior Corey Goeggelman led off the 5th with a single in the hole at short.  Senior Ryan Kenney followed with a ground rule double that bounced over the fence in right.  Geoff Soja drove in Goeggelman with a sac fly.  Seniors Andy Petersen and Alex Lazary added base hits.(Fairport 9-13, 5-6)

Once again the Red Raiders played generously and gave away 6 unearned runs and couldn't overcome the deficit.  Fairport did get on the board in the top of the first when Tom Socci led off the game with a double to left field.  He scored on a two-out error.  In the third Corey Goeggelman drilled a single down the third base line with two outs and scored on a triple to right center by Ryan Kenney.  (Fairport 9-14, 5-7)

Section V Class AAA Sectional Game

Fairport 23  Edison 7

The Red Raiders rolled to a win in the opening round of the Section V Class AAA Tournament.  Tim Lauber drove in a pair of runs in the first with a single to center to put Fairport up 3-0.  Geoff Soja had a big day at the plate going 4-4 with 4 RBIs and scoring 3 runs.  Ben Falkowitz and Anthony Gentile added run scoring hits for their first hit of the year.  Andy Petersen struck out 8 out of the 10 batters he faced and gave up just one hit. The Red Raiders advance to face top seeded Hilton in the quarterfinal round. (Fairport 10-14) Next Game - Sectional Quarterfinals Friday May 30 @ Hilton 4:30 pm

 

Section V Class AAA Quarterfinal

Hilton 5  Fairport 4 (12 innings)

The Red Raiders took the top-seeded Cadets to the limit in a memorable high school baseball classic but fell short in a 12 inning barn-burner.  Hilton scored first in the bottom of the first but Fairport came right back in the top of the second.  Matt Valente led off with a single to left and took second on an overthrow.  Geoff Soja sacrificed Valente to third and he scored on a wild pitch.  Hilton regained the lead but the Red Raiders fought back in the fifth.  Lou Zambelli slammed a double off the fence in left with two outs to start the rally.  Alex Lazary line a single down the left field line to drive in a run.  Tommie Socci walked and Corey Goeggelman was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Ryan Kenney who walked to force in a run and tie the game.  Hilton regained the lead in the bottom of the 6th but Fairport cam back once again in the top of the 7th with their back against the wall.  With two outs Lazary kept the season alive by  reaching base on an error.  Socci was hit by a pitch before Goeggelman ripped a clutch single to right to tie the game for the third time.  The game went scoreless for the next five innings with both teams stranding runners in scoring position before Hilton broke through in the bottom of the 12th.  (Fairport 10-15, 5-7)
